Form V

For those who wanted a more aggressive style, there's Form V. It tends to favor overpowering the opponent with a variety of strong attacks, body checks, and even a few grapple attacks. If Form III is all about defense, then Form V is all about offense. It was made for the more warrior minded Jedi Knight, a peculirity in the Lucasian Order, considering their stance on aggresion.

Form V is truly a style from the war. Developed by battled hardended swordmasters, the style was made in an effort to match the Sith powerwise on the battlefield. It was an answer to the generally aggressive fighting styles of the enemy, and much was done to make the form as formidible as possible.

The Form has three main staples to its philosophy: to win through overwhelming power, to win through a constant barrage of attacks, and to win through redirection of attack. These three main principles tend to make for a dominant swordsman. It's common to see a Form V fighter plow right through an opponent, or knock them back with one mighty swing. Form V saberists are also skilled in redirection of blaster fire. Rather than simple deflection, they train to return the bolts to whomever fired them. This used to be one of the main proponents of Form III, but there was a decision to make that style mostly defensive, and thus the redirection skills became a Form V staple, though many Form III masters still chose to gain that skill anyway.

Form V practitioners aren't afraid to mix up a few melee attacks with their blade fighting. A various amount of kicks, knees, punches, elbows, and other attacks are taught to be used when up close to an opponent. While such things are also taught with the other Forms, particularly Forms II and IV, there is a special emphasis for Form V, as it's part of the styles philosophy to overwhelm the foe by any means nessisary.

Because of all this, one may think Form V to be the ultimate Lucasian style to learn. But it too has it's weaknessess, its biggest being it's lack of defences. Because of it's aggressive leanings, Form V saberists tend to charge head on with attacks, leaving themselves open for a lethal counter. A master swordsman can defeat an average Form V fighter with a well time counter move if the latter isn't careful. Another weakness is it's lack of finesse. Form V tends to be very linear, with the fighter often charging in head on. There will be changes in the angels of attack of course, but it still moves and functions in lines and basic attack strategies. There was actually a more fluid form of Form V used during the years of the war, one that looked in many ways like Form IV in action. Indeed, one of the Form IV developers had a hand in Form V, and had helped to develop the constant attack strategy through fluid attacks, footwork, and linked circular movements. He also developed two higher level sequences for Form V devotees to learn. However, because of the conservitive attitides that the Lucaisan Order developed towards combat, Form V become less and less popular umong the Order's members, and so there were fewer and fewer masters qualified to teach the higher level techniques and strategies. The Form ended up being, in some ways, a more poweful version of Form I, with some extra attacks and barehanded techniques mixed in.

Even in its current state, Form V can still be formidible. However, the majority of Jedi focusing on it today are shadows of the masters who used it during the war. There are still a few masters left however, who still know of it's higher secrets, and it would be wise for a Form V devotee to seek them out. It would also be wise to spend some time with other forms in order to have a good basis in defensive techniques and sophisitcated blade manipulation.
