In the early 21st century, the world was thrust into the horrors and bloodshed of another world war.

The violence that continued on in the middle east finaly erupted into full blown carnage after a missle attack from militant, religious terrorists crashed into Israel, claiming thousands of lives. The same thing happened to Palestine however, and the two blamed the other for striking first, officialy declaring war upon each other. Nations all over the planet gradualy took sides in the conflict, all claiming to be fighting in the "War Against Terrorism", bringing in more participants, and more weapons to increase the bloodshed.

The major fear that was spreading was the use of nuclear weapons, a threat that was increasing day by day. However, there were new weapons of mass destruction being put into use, weapons that were being developed secretly in earlier years, such as sonic blasters, high energy lasers, eletro-guns, as well as new advances in germ and gene warfare. Also, there were increased terrorists and secret espionage agent acts spreading all over the world, with nations all over being hit by sabatoge attacks, bombings, assasinations, and the like. It was as if Death and Havoc were begining to have free rein over the planet... in fact it was the dawn of such a time.

Another major difference in this world war that sepreated it from the others, is that unlike the first two, the warring governments did not have the overwhelming support from the people. All the world over, citizens were getting tired of being oppressed by the powers that be, limiting their freedoms and allowing their resources to be usurped by powerfull buisnesses. They were fed up with serving under governments that were bought and sold. In many third world nations, as well as in first world countries, even as troops continued to battle against each other, discored began to rise up umongst the citizenry as they brought unrest and revolt towards their respectivve governments.

One notable figure during this time was a young man named David Vallas. A carasmatic, idealistic, and energetic college student living in the United States, he was disgusted with the growing war, as well as his country. He felt it was abusing other nations, and it's own nationals for way too long, and was using the war to further these actions. With stirring speeches and writings, he traveled from college to college, organizing many admirers and like minded individuals in a movement against world wide tyrany. As this was during wartime, such actions were considered treason, and soon he was constatly on the run.

There were many people like him all the world over, sirring up the people's igdignation. This, combined with the hostilities awakened and ushered on by the war, made things on Earth that much more volitile, with fanatical groups appearing all over. They were always around years before, underground, occasionaly making noise here and there, just waiting for the right moment to cause chaos. Religious fanatics, radical political groups, anarchistic organizations, and plain old military minded maniacs... they all recived their chance when the war broke out and the unrest began.

Things became desperate when one group, and anarchistic order named The Overrunners captured several nuclear arms units, some missles as well, from a UN trasport run shot down by hostiles. The Overrunners threatned to set them off randomly in several targets known only to them, setting the world into sheer panic.

The humans on Earth were thus posed to completely destroy themselves, and in the process, everything around them. And it seemed nothing would stop them from doing it.

That was when the Elders felt enough was enough....
